Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has directed Livingstone electronic and print media to provide fair and balanced reporting of the campaign ahead of the postponed by-election scheduled for 14 March 2013.
Electoral Commission of Zambia director Priscilla Isaac says media houses should conduct interviews with candidates with fairness both in the style of the interview and amount of the time given.
Ms Isaac stated that in line with the ECZ%u2019s chairperson postponement of the Livingstone by-election and the directive that political parties will campaign using electronic and print media, she called on media houses to work in accordance with the electoral code of conduct.
She urged media houses to ensure that airtime is available to all political parties in an equitable manner to avoid creating undue advantage for a particular political party.
Ms Isaac also said political parties will be expected to pay media houses for the services unless media houses have a provision for free air time.
This is according to a statement issued to Zambezi fm dated 4th March 2013.
